Good Friday...to refer to the betrayal, beating and brutal
death of our Lord and Savior as Good Friday, well it seems wrong unless…..
Let me ask you a few questions.
2. If you had to paint a picture of love, what would it be?
3. What is the ultimate example of love?
You’d think these would be easy questions to answer, yet we all
walk around applying the word love to anything from family to chocolate
without hesitation. One of the problems is the English language only has one
word for love, but back in Biblical times there were different words for
different types of love.
Love weighs in as a pretty powerful word if it is
understood. Take this scripture for example: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the
greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13
Faith, hope and love; word that are a part of the believer and
non-believers life whether they realize it or not. And the greatest of these is love.
I keep sitting here trying to come up with the definition I
would write for this word love. It’s so big I can’t even put it into words.
I have to say that God has the answers to our love questions
(and remember, the Bible tells us God IS love):
1. What is the true meaning of love?
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
You wanna know why I think Good Friday is just the right
name? Because it’s good that God loves us, it’s good that Jesus died for us,
and it’s so good that we can choose Him TODAY!
It’s Friday, but Sunday’s coming!
