We had some hard news to handle today in our family. Our friend, dear to us has been injured and is in surgery. It hurts.
See growing up, we were a small family of four. A Dad, a Mom, a Son, a Daughter. Then add to the picture our best friends. One of my parents just had to say the words "the McNeils are on their way over" and my brother and I were thrilled.
The McNeils were a Dad, a Mom, a Son and three Daughters. Family. Our families did everything together. It's hard, no impossible to put into word the love and bond we shared, and even though now, years later our families have changed, some loss, many gained, the love and bond is still there. When you love people that much, and they are in pain, it grips your own heart.
There are those who would say it's not worth it. Save yourself the grief. I disagree. What is life if we've never loved. What is happiness without loved ones to share it with. You can waste a lifetime trying to protect yourself, and be left with only regrets, or....you can risk it all and love and expect nothing in return.
Please pray with us for our friend and his family. God showed us love by sending His Son to die for us. He's not going to forsake us now. God Bless You!
What a beautiful description of what "family" is. It is so much more than just the "blood" relative but those who endear themselves in our lives with their love and friendship. I will remember your friend and his physical challenge of the moment knowing our God is intimately acquainted with each and every one of His "creations". May all those who love and care for this friend and family be blessed with strength and hope in these days ahead.
