Yo! Me again and yes I’m planning to talk about fear. I know what you’re thinking, “isn’t it enough that we have to have fear, and now she feels it necessary to discuss it.” Well frankly….YES! The way I see it, fear is one thing we all have in common. We’ve all experienced it. We’ve all had love ones effected by it. Why not discuss it. Aren’t the hidden fears the most dangerous?
I was reading on Wikipedia and it stated that according to surveys, some of the most common fears are:
Ghosts
The existence of evil powers
Cockroaches
Spider
Snakes
Heights
Water
Enclosed spaces
Tunnels and bridges
Needles
Social rejection
Failure
Examinations
Public speaking
Do some of these surprise you? What surprised me were how many people I know that have these very fears. In fact, the only two listed that I don’t know anyone who has a fear of are ghosts and cockroaches.
According to Merriam-Webster a definition for fear is: to be afraid of; expect with alarm (fear the worst). That pretty much sums up the list above, plus the others you and I could add. I’ve gotta tell ya, that kind of fear doesn’t sound like it too good for you. In fact I think it’s bad for us. I’m no psychologist, but I think that we need to identify that type of fear in ourselves. Only if we come face to face with what frightens us can we effectively deal with it. We need to see its hold on our lives and say ENOUGH! There’s no cure all, each fear and each person is different, but there is hope. Things you might consider doing: find what caused the fear in you, talk to your spouse or a friend or clergy, get Christian counseling, and study ways to overcome fear. Myself, I find strength in scriptures like Psalm 27:1: The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shat I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shat I be afraid? I have read Psalm 91 so many times it’s a wonder the pages haven’t worn out of my Bible!
Good fear. Yep I said it…..Good Fear. Didn’t know it exists, sure you do.
Merriam-Webster defines it: to have a reverential awe of (fear God) Now that’s a fear worth having. It says “I understand how power, might, awesome and unmatchable God is and show Him my utmost respect and reverence because of it.” So at Matthew 10:28 says, And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. But NEVER forget Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Isn’t God great!!!
