Childhood memories

I loved cattails when I was a kid.

They were not only pretty, but to a child, well they stimulate the imagination!

My brother and I would go out to play and suddenly we had swords for dueling or grenades when the neighbors kids "attacked", which is code for came our to play. When the girls played they were food we'd gather for the menfolk (milk weed was also good for this). Sometimes, when they were starting to go by, they were just good to have around to pull one apart as we sat by the pond and just were kids.

There is not as much of it around where I live anymore. I took this picture a few years ago at the pond so the memories wouldn't be lost forever.

I am surprise to find out that you can eat cattails. The web has recipes! I can't help but wonder, did a couple of little girls serve some to some boys who on a dare tried them? Wouldn't that be the cool.

We're only children once. Hang on to the happy memories, but also, take the time as an adult to look at something with the eyes of a child. You might be surprised to find you can still see beauty in the world and that you can still use your imagination. Why even now I'm looking at the cattail pic and thinking,"I wonder if one look at those gave someone the idea for corn dogs?"
